Биографија
Iva Nenić is an ethnomusicologist and cultural theorist working as an assistant professor at the Department of Ethnomusicology, Faculty of Music, Belgrade. Her research delves into the ways cultural, media and artistic practices shape ideology and facilitate the expression and reproduction of social identities. She is particularly interested in the interplay between music and gender regimes, politics of intersectionality, ideological interpellation, affective sonic practices, epistemology of fieldwork, and the translation of field experiences into ethnography. Moreover, she critically
evaluates the regimes of representation within ethnomusicology and its allied disciplines.
Iva's fieldwork spans a diverse range from traditional Serbian folk music to the domain of Balkan/post-Yugoslav world music, popular culture and gender issues. She has done an extensive research of women’s musicianship in Serbian independent and neotraditional music scenes, Balkan-influenced hip-
hop, and the shared popular culture of post-Yugoslav pop folk. Her work illuminates the landscape of neotraditional and popular culture in the early 21st century after postmodernity, emphasizing themes like transgression, agency, sustainability, and power dynamics.
Iva has published more than 60 scholarly articles, chapters and essays, and translated into Serbian two books related to ethnomusicology / philosophy, music and culture (Dolar, Mladen, A Voice
and Nothing More, Belgrade: Fedon, 2012, Petan, Svanibor, Lambada na Kosovu –
etnomuzikološki ogledi, Belgrade: Biblioteka XX vek, 2010).
Her monograph, titled Gusle Players and Other Female Traditional Instrumentalists in Serbia: Identification by Sound, published by CLIO in 2019 (in Serbian), was honored with the "Anđelka
Milić" award. This accolade, bestowed by the Section for Feminist Research and Critical Studies on Masculinities (SEFEM), recognizes scholarly works that critically contribute to the study of gender relations. Among her more recent publications is the book Women’s Leadership in Music: Modes, Legacies, Alliances, co-edited with Linda Cimardi and funded by the Science
Fund of Serbia (transcript verlag, 2023, https://www.transcript-verlag.de/978-3-8376-6546-
