I completed a BSc in Molecular Biology and Physiology (option – Experimental Biomedical Sciences) and then moved to Trinity College Dublin graduating with a PhD in Molecular Medicine (field of Immunology). My laboratory practical skills include Cell Culture techniques, Molecular Biology techniques, Bioinformatics (epitope prediction databases; In silico protein translation and alignment software packages), Genetic analysis and determination of genetic diagnosis, and Genetic Counseling. I am also experienced in the preparation of grant proposals, including protocol development, budgeting, experimental design etc., as well as in Project and Data Management. My more recent research is in the field of molecular microbiology including certain zoonozes, and antimicrobial resistance, while in the field of cancer and nanomedicine my research has focused on the harmful effects of doxorubicin non-covalently conjugated with fullerenol, in the context of its anticancer properties. I was a reviewer in numerous scientific journals with high impact factors. Additionally, as a vice-dean for a number of years at my faculty, I have encountered various challenges that have required me to problem-solve and demonstrate initiative. Besides, as a university teacher, I have gained valuable insights important for the academic work.
