Prof. Dr. Darko Trifunovic is a distinguished academic, security expert, and former diplomat. He currently serves as a full-time professor and Director of the Institute for National and International Security, and is Editor-in-Chief of the Security Science Journal.

Prof. Dr. Trifunovic was awarded the honorary title Doctor Honoris Causa by the University of Public and Individual Security “Apeiron” in Kraków, Poland. He holds visiting and guest professorships at several esteemed institutions, including the University of St. Kliment Ohridski (Faculty of Security Studies, Skopje, North Macedonia), Fudan University (Center for American Studies and Institute of BRI Strategy and International Security, Shanghai), and Matej Bel University (Faculty of Political Science, Slovakia). He is also an Adjunct Professor and Research Coordinator at the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, as well as a Senior Researcher at Bar-Ilan University, Israel.

Prof. Dr. Trifunovic is a specialist in Security Studies, Intelligence and Counter-Intelligence, Counter-Terrorism, and National and International Security. He previously served in the diplomatic corps as First Secretary of the Foreign Service of Bosnia and Herzegovina at the United Nations, and was an official delegate to the 1998 Rome Diplomatic Conference for the establishment of the International Criminal Court.

He represents Serbia and Montenegro in the International Strategic Studies Association (ISSA) and contributes to Defense & Foreign Affairs publications and the Global Information System. He has also served in international advisory roles, including as the first foreign security expert appointed by the Shanghai Center for International Studies for the 2008 Olympic Games and as a consultant for the 2010 World Expo security planning in China.

Prof. Dr. Trifunovic is a founding member of the International Counter-Terrorism Academic Community (ICTAC) and has authored numerous academic publications. In recognition of his contributions to national security, he was awarded the Great Golden Badge, the highest honor of the Military Security Agency of Serbia.
